Fabulous Fair in Seattle

The Century 21 "Seattle World's Fair" opened April 21, 1962.  I'm enjoying memorabilia being shared especially as we approach the Fair's fiftieth anniversary.

Life Magazine had a spread February 9, 1962.  I love the flame shooting needle!

And a beautiful artist's rendering of the fairgrounds at night:

I can't imagine working on the top of Needle!

If you have eighteen minutes - check out this "History in Motion" video with promotional and documentary clips - featuring lots of Fair tidbits such as Boeing's innovative Spacearium, the "jazzy aspect of (Seattle's) transportation picture" installation of the zippy monorail, and some time-lapse of the Needle being built!

Seattle Channel Video can be played in Flash Player 9 and up

Back in the day, Century 21 Exposition brought science, culture and fun all together in one 74 acre plot in Seattle.

Seattle Center's information about remembering the Fair can be found at The Next 50

Fun post! Love the images. That flame on top of the Needle never looked that cool. Too much wind at the top. I was happy to see my Flickr C21 post card slideshow!

Bacigalou - I meant to message you that I embedded your slideshow but headed for bed right after I posted and forgot! You have a great collection. Watch the video at the very bottom if you ever get a little free time.
